If you're wondering where to plan your next weekend away, we recommend visiting Denver, Colorado! It's a direct flight from many major US cities making it easily accessible for weekend travel and offers the perfect mix of outdoor activities, world-renowned museums, hip bars and top-notch restaurants.
Here is our ultimate weekend guide to Denver, sharing all of the things you must see and do on your visit!
We recommend staying in Downtown Denver, close to Union Station. This location is within walking distance of world-class restaurants, bars and museums and easily accessible to major public transport.
We stayed at the Oxford Hotel on our visit which we can highly recommend, it was a mid-range price with a luxury boutique feel. Mornings include free tea and coffee in the lobby by their cosy fireplace, and evenings included a free bourbon tasting in the lobby.

Top things to do in Denver, Colorado:
Have Dinner at Urban Farmer at the Oxford Hotel Downtown Denver:
If you're staying at the Oxford Hotel in Downtown Denver, we recommend heading to dinner at their Urban Farmer Restaurant. They do amazing steak and are known for their locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. Our personal favourite was their house-grown mushrooms, grown onsite at the hotel and cooked over an open flame at our table.
Visit the Red Rock Amphitheatre and Park:
The Red Rocks Amphitheatre is something you need not just on your Denver travel bucket list but your USA travel bucket list too! This location is iconic and can't be missed. It's a 10 mile drive west from the city centre to reach the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, an incredible open-air theatre and park of walking trails surrounded by pre-historic red rocks forced up from the ground.
If you're lucky enough to visit in warmer months check out the event schedule and try to catch an open-air concert there. The venue has seen the likes of some of the world's best artists including The Beatles, U2, Coldplay and many more. However, even if you're not visiting for a concert, we'd still recommend seeing the Rock n' Roll Museum on site, taking a walk through the incredible structure of the stadium, and enjoying one of the hiking trails through the park.
Check out the Denver Art Museum:
The Denver Art Museum is located within the modern building of the Civic Centre in Denver. It is worth visiting for the architecture alone. It's one of the largest art museums between the West Coast and Chicago and features a range of exhibits to keep you busy.
Have Cocktails and Pizza at Happy Camper, LoFi:
If you're looking for fun outdoor, backyard vibes for drinks and snacks head to the Happy Camper. We loved their pizzas, beers and cocktails.
Have margarita and Tacos at My Neighbor Felix, LoFi:
Don't miss My Neighbor Felix for a great Mexican feed and some giant margaritas if you're in the LoFi area.
Check out the Meow Wolf Exhibit at the Convergence Station:
If you're looking for a unique experience, be sure to visit Meow Wolfs Convergence Station Exhibit. It's a science-fiction themed, surreal experience, that is immersive, colourful and hosts a range of psychedelic art spaces for you to wander through and get lost it. We honestly didn't really know what was going on for most of the exhibit or where we were, but it's unique and we'd recommend it.
Get a coffee or a cocktail at the Wild, Downtown Denver:
For a great morning coffee in Downtown Denver (or Evening cocktail), visit the Wild.
Visit the Molly Brown House Museum:
This is a MUST see in Denver and one of our favourite experiences during our visit. The Molly Brown House Museum is located at the original Denver home of the "Unsinkable Molly Brown", best known for surviving the sinking of the Titanic. A visit to the museum will take you through her full life story, where you'll learn of her activism, particularly for women's rights and philanthropy. You can take an audio guide tour or book a guided tour which lasts around 45 minutes. We highly recommend the guided tour to ensure you get the full story.
Have Breakfast at Stowaway Kitchen, RiNo:
If you're looking for another cosy and cute breakfast spot, be sure to check out Stowaway Kitchen for great coffee and delicious meals. It is a Japanese fusion cafe, with our favourite meal being the Asagohan breakfast.
Explore the street art of RiNo:
Once you've finished breakfast at Stowaway take a wander around RiNo (The River North Arts District) to visit all of the street art. The best art is located between Walnut and Larimer Street from 26th Street to 28th street.
