Our review of King and Prawn: Board games, delicious food and a great atmosphere

Our blog review of King and Prawn board game cafe and bar

Located in a quaint local shop house along Purvis Street is the King and Prawn, a board game cafe and bar, stacked with more games than you can image and a delicious and diverse menu. We've been to a number of board game cafes in Singapore, but this ranks as our top for both game selection and tasty food. We pre booked to come for a Sunday lunch and lucky we did as it did get busy through the day.

The Food at King and Prawn:

One of the reasons we opted to try the King and Prawn cafe is they offer one-for-one main meals via the entertainer app. We shared the Beef Katsu Burger, which was incredible. It was a twist on your standard beef burger, coated with delicious bread crumbs and covered in Katsu gravy. This was my personal favourite. Our second choice was the spicy pork pasta, it was a little spicy for me, but our friends who love a good kick to their meal thoroughly enjoyed it.

Since we were saving money on our main meals, we went all out with our orders. Our absolute favourite menu item was the Camembert Brûlée, this is a must for any cheese lover out there. It is served with a sufficient amount of bread to lap all of the creamy cheesy goodness up.

The Coffee and Desserts at King and Prawn:

If you're taking your time playing games at this cafe, then once you've digested your main meal we recommend a taste of one of the desserts. They are large portions, we shared ours between four. We also loved the nutella hot chocolate, best to drink after the marshmallows have had time to melt. Our other drink choices were the iced latte and and pineapple tea.

King and Prawn board games:

For $13 SGD per person you can play unlimited board games with no time restrictions. What we loved most about the game selections was that each was carefully coded into game type (strategy, trivia, word, two player, classics, etc) and coded into light, medium and hard options within that. On every table was also a cafe recommended list which allowed you to skim through favourites, with guidance on optimal number of player and playing duration. We recommend choosing from this set of options as the staff were well versed in these games, explaining to us exactly how to play, saving time worrying about reading any instructions.

Getting to King and Prawn Cafe:

King and Prawn is located at 4 Purvis St, level 2, Singapore 188601,

It is open Tuesday - Thursday from 5.30pm - 11.30pm, Friday 5.30pm - 1.30am, Saturday 11am - 1.30am and Sunday 11am - 10pm.
