Start your day at Sirromet Winery:
Located on Mount Cotton, Sirromet Winery is set on over 560 acres of natural bushland, offering views over the surrounding countryside and picturesque gardens. Much of the wine produced at Sirromet is grown in Queensland's own Granite Belt region, offering a cooler climate and unique landscape for wine production.
Top things to see and do at Sirromet Winery:
Wine tasting: Take time to learn about the local wine and how it is produced onsite. For $5 per person, you can do a tasting of any 6 wines. Our favourite of the day was the Ginger infused white wine, perfect for a refreshing summer drink.
Visit the Lavender fields: Visit in the spring to see the bright purples of the lavender fields surrounding the vineyards
Take a walk through the gardens in search of Kangaroos, you are bound to see at least one or two
Stop for lunch on the lawn: Sirromet has multiple dining options if you wish to eat there. Be sure to book in advance to guarantee yourself a table.
Visit the Laguna: Witness the still calm waters surrounded by the laguna
Have fish and chips or a picnic by the coast at Cleveland Lighthouse:
Surrounded by ocean views of Moreton Bay and North Stradbroke Island is the Cleveland Point parkland and Lighthouse. Enjoy a picnic by the water, stop by the seafood restaurant, cafe or pick up some takeaway fish and chips as you sit back and relax around the park.
The Cleveland Point Lighthouse is a landmark hexagonal timber structure built between 1864-1865. It is the only remaining timber lighthouse in Moreton bay and one of the few left with Queensland. It was developed to become a key settlement location in Queensland for trade, however, was soon overtaken by Brisbane as being the major trading location.
Look out for Koalas along Eddie Santagiuliana Way Nature Walk
After lunch, take a leisurely walk or bike ride along Eddie Santagiuliana Way. This walking trail stretches 8.5kms from Raby Bay Harbour, from Island Street to Manning Esplanade and Thorlands. The trail offers a mix of diverse scenery including coastal front views, mangroves and forest boardwalks.
If you're looking to cover only a short section of the trail, we recommend starting at the end of Golby Esplanade. Follow the path along the Goleby Esplanade Foreshore to Manning Park Playground, spanning 2kms. This section is possible to complete within 30 minutes of walking (each way). This section will offer coastal views over the bay, as well as a forest and mangrove boardwalk.
Visit The Historic Ormiston House
Built-in the 1860s is the Historic Ormiston Plantation house, overlooking Moreton Bay with over 14 acres of beautiful gardens. Experience Queensland's historic colonial architecture. Be sure to check their website in advance for opening hours as these have recently changed.
